Salona, the ancient metropolis of the Roman province of Dalmatia, located on the central part of the eastern Adriatic coast. In antiquity it was the capital of the Roman province, but was abandoned during the migration of peoples, and later the Croatian medieval town of Solin developed east of the ruins of the ancient city.
