Klis Fortress

Visit the old fortress of Klis, a medieval Split stronghold that had huge influence in defending Split and surrounding area at the time of wars, but especially during the war with the Ottoman Empire. See the well-preserved fortress, learn all about its history and discover who were the ‘Uskoci’ – a historical military formation, sometimes also called "Deserters of Klis". Explore historical sites within the fortress, which stretch over three floors. On this tour you will also visit a museum inside the fortress that has a small collection of historical weapons and uniforms that were used during the wars. Because it was preserved very well, the fortress was also used as a film set for the popular Game of Thrones series. Therefore, a visit to the fortress means a visit to the city of Meereen.
