The city of Mostar holds a captivating historical journey, tracing its roots back to ancient times. It played a vital role as a logistics and trading center, witnessing the influence of Byzantium and later the Ottoman Empire. This influence is evident in every aspect of the city, particularly in the enchanting old town, divided by the iconic Old Bridge. Mostar stands on the crossroads of three cultures, which still thrive today. Situated on the picturesque banks of the Neretva River, it is the largest city in Herzegovina. The name “Mostar” derives from the bridge guards (mostari) who protected the Neretva River banks.
