The Plitvice Lakes National Park is the oldest park in Croatia, established in 1949. It is also the largest and most visited national park in the country. The park became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1979. It consists of 16 interconnected lakes with different sizes, shapes, and unique characteristics. Over thousands of years, sediment barriers have formed due to natural processes and pressures. The park’s geological features and location create an ideal environment for a wide range of plant and animal species, showcasing rich biodiversity. Visitors can explore the park through hiking and experience the abundance of flora and fauna, as well as the stunning turquoise-colored, crystal-clear waters of the lakes.
